Following the Dream:

It all began with a dream and Loren was a man with a clear vision.

  • The vehicle had to be American made.
  • It had to traverse the globe entirely on land, no boats or ferries. The only water crossing was the South Atlantic Ocean from South America to South Africa.

Loren Upton would make three attempts before Patty joined his expedition.    They embarked on a quest that would make them the first people to conquer the daunting Darien Gap entirely on land. Their journey spanned an astounding 56,000 miles, and it lasted for an awe-inspiring five years.

Conquering the Darien Gap:

The Darien Gap, a dense and unforgiving rainforest, had thwarted numerous overland adventurers before Patty and Loren. Located between Panama and Columbia,  It took them 741 days to cross the 125 mile jungle terrain.  However, they were undeterred, and their tale of conquering this challenging terrain is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Dive into their triumphs as they navigate treacherous landscapes, forge wild rivers, and overcome the many challenges of this untamed wilderness.

The Jeep, Sand Ship Discovery:

It was important to Loren Patty and Loren’s Jeep was more than just a vehicle; it was their home, protector, and constant companion throughout the journey.  The  1966 Jeep CJ6 was an american made vehicle, and relatively stock.  The one major modification was the extended top. Loren was a tall man and he added 4″ to the roof for better head room.   It is a remarkable testament to the durability of this iconic American vehicle
