Entering the Podcasting World

Podcasting:  A dream in to reality

What is Podcasting?

noun – a digital audio file made available on the Internet for downloading to a computer or mobile device, typically available as a series, new installments of which can be received by subscribers automatically.
verb – make (a digital audio file) available as a podcast.

Podcasting’s popularity has exploded in the last few years.   There are over 800,000 podcasts available on almost any topic you can image.    The idea and dream of building a podcast has been on my mind for a while.    The COVID-19 pandemic provided the time to actually make it a reality.

The “nudge” that was needed

I was interviewed on Armstrong Cable’s “In The Loop” podcast.  The interview was about the Center of Harmony and upcoming events and plans.   Those change two months later with the the pandemic and business shutdowns. The interviewers introduced me to Buzzsprout podcasting service and all of its benefits.  After a bit of quick research, I signed up for an account.   The free account was easy to setup and submit to the other services, such as iTunes, Spotify, Pandora and many more.   Here is the list of where you can find the Great Things LLC Podcast now:

Zoom & YouTube:  Finding a bigger Audience

Podcasts, by their nature, are a digital audio file shared across platforms built to share them.   Successful podcasts have been using video and YouTube to expand the reach of their shows.  This makes absolute sense to me.  My podcasting approach is to start with video and then produce the audio.

Zoom.us is a free video conferencing service that EVERYONE has jumped on.   Zoom connects people and is an incredible tool to connecting, collaborating and offering services.   The quarantine and economic shutdown has highlighted the effectiveness of the tool.   I use Zoom to meet with and record the interviews.   I am a huge advocate for video and enjoy producing videos, the raw interview footage is edited (Final Cut Pro X).   I simply strip out the audio and upload it to my BuzzSprout channel.   Buzzsprout takes care of publishing to all of the podcast services.     The final interview is then published to YouTube.    Boom!!!
